As a rule, you should not share your passwords with many people. However, there is one password you can share with all of your friends and family: the Wi-Fi password.
A strong password should include numbers, special characters, and capital letters. However, while that combination makes it difficult to guess, it also makes it difficult to share with someone else.
Fortunately, some devices have made it easier to share complex Wi-Fi passwords.
Watch this video to see how easy it can be to share passwords between devices.
How to share Wi-Fi
The exact method for sharing your Wi-Fi password depends on your device.
To share a password between Apple devices:
- Have one device connected to the network.
- Be near the iPhone, iPad, or Apple computer you want to share the password with.
- On the device requiring the password, select the Wi-Fi network you want to join.
- On the connected device, tap "Share password" on the pop-up that appears.
This will connect the device and save the password so it can automatically connect to the Wi-Fi network at any time.
If you are trying to share the password with someone else and the pop-up doesn't appear, ensure both devices are signed into iCloud and that each person has the other's e-mail address saved in their phones.
If you need to know the actual password, you can easily find that too.
On your iPhone:
- Go to Settings.
- Tap Wi-Fi.
- Tap on the 'i' next to the network's name.
- Tap on the password.
- Verify your identity, and then the password will appear.
- You can reference it from there or copy it to your clipboard.
On a Mac computer:
- Open Wi-Fi settings.
- Under "Known Networks," click the three dots in the circle.
- Select "Copy Password."
- Paste it where you need it.
